On Sunday, May 20, Elder Brian Spivey of CPCC (pictured) will be leading and preaching in the morning worship service at 9:30 AM. On that Sunday evening, at 6:00 PM, we will welcome Pastor Joel Aubrey, of New Creation Church in Granville, NY, to report on the progress of their new church (which we support). An Elder of NCC, Brian Verrett (M.Div., ThM) will be teaching that evening on the Book of Judges, continuing our "Route 66" series. |
CPCC has Sunday School classes for all ages at 11 AM until noon. The Adult Class (which includes Jr/Sr High Students) meets in the Fireside Room for an engaging historical lessons on the church in America — with Dr Bob Godfrey on a LIgonier Ministries DVD (about 22 minutes long), with a discussion afterwards. Upcoming topics are:
• May 13, "The Presbyterian Witness" — The Presbyterian church experienced the revival that swept across America by balancing the desire for vital religion with the desire for sound theology. In this lesson, Dr. Godfrey explains why this was a critical process in the development of Presbyterian church during nineteenth-century America. • May 20, "Through the Civil War" — The Civil War not only divided the nation, it divided the church. In this lesson, Dr. Godfrey looks at the history of the Presbyterian church through the Civil War and the changing trajectory of the church in America more broadly. • May 27, "Christianity & Science" — The idea that Christianity is incompatible with science is false. In this lesson, Dr. Godfrey exposes this falsehood by exploring the four major fields of scientific endeavor that were attacking Christianity and contributing to the growing pessimism of the nineteenth century. Our monthly Iron Man Fellowship breakfast is CANCELLED (many of our regulars are not able to attend, and no one has RSVP’d). Perhaps as you men eat your breakfast at home on Saturday you will pray for the strengthening of our men’s ministry at CPCC. I think I will start praying for this every Saturday; join me! Let’s end the school-year together with a strong turnout on Saturday, June 9th. yours by divine mercy, Pastor David |
