OBITUARY from Towley & Wheeling Funeral Home:
When you’ve worked with your hands all your life and in your 93rd year failing health takes that from you, it becomes one of the greatest challenges you’ve faced. Dale Pennings made a living as a mechanic, but he was a jack of all trades. If something was broken, he would fix it…but he couldn’t fix what cancer was taking from him. Over the last year, Dale and his wife, Christine, along with help from the VA tried to stave off the inevitable decline. (Just months ago, he would sit on a crate and do a brake job on his car.)
In recent weeks he would spend his days in bed and long for a time when he would be made whole in the presence of his Lord and Savior. On October 18, 2026, Dale Pennings died peacefully at home, in his sleep.
Born May 12, 1942, in Hudson, NY, he was the son of the late Reverend Burtricus Pennings and Gladys (Hitchcock) Pennings. He grew up in Amsterdam/Pattersonville area, depending on where his father was serving as minister. After high school he was drafted into the United States Army, serving a tour in Germany and upon returning home he joined the Air National Guard.
Dale and his wife, Betty, raised four children in Glenville, NY, supporting them by working at the High Mills Garage, then later as a self-employed mechanic. He also invested in a number of local rental properties that he maintained on his own. He was a busy man and he knew that even in business he needed to conduct himself with Christian integrity.
He was active and served in many Bible believing churches across the area, from Faith Baptist in Rexford, to his latest home, Clifton Park Community Church, where on of the Deacons refers to him as “a walking hymnal.” He was born the son of a preacher and throughout his life faith in Christ was a driving factor.
Dale is survived by his wife, Christine Pennings; his children, Lawrence (Sheryl) Pennings, Kenneth Pennings, Timothy (Susan) Pennings and Lois (Daniel) Kemner. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dale is preceded in death by his brother Burrell Pennings and his first wife, Betty Pennings.
