  1. What is the CPCC Pastor Search?
    For some time the Elders and Deacons have discussed adding a second, full-time, experienced pastor to serve our growing congregation.
  2. Is Pastor Bissett retiring, and would a new pastor be his replacement?
    Pastor Bissett is not yet retiring (that is a few years away we hope). The new man should not be viewed as his replacement. PDB would appreciate the help of another full-time pastor, and enjoy doing some mentoring of a younger man as well. Of course, having another pastor in place would also help during the (eventual) retirement of Pastor Bissett.
  3. What is the CPCC Pastor Search Committee?
    According to our CPCC By-Laws, the Elders are to form a Search Committee of at least five members, including a majority of elders, with one elder serving as chairman, to conduct the search and initial evaluation of potential pastors in order to identify the best man to be our first candidate. 
  4. Who is on the CPCC Pastor Search Committee (PSC)?
    The Elders sought to have a good representation of CPCC on the PSC — both leaders and laymen. The eleven PSC members are named in the flyer distributed at church [not online].
  5. What will the Pastor Search Committee (PSC) be doing?
    Initially, the committee will meet to prepare the process — finalize the Pastor Job Description, Applicant Questionnaire, and Church Profile — and set-up a web page for applicants to use. The PSC will review applicants resumes, references, sample sermons, etc., seeking to identify a suitable candidate for the Elder’s consideration.  
  6. Why is the candidate process confidential?
    As the PSC works, those who are applying will be known only to them. Many candidates are currently serving in other churches. Keeping their names and details private protects their current ministries and encourages honest applications.
  7. How long will the search take?
    A thorough search typically takes 12 or more months, but we anticipate a much quicker process, already hearing of some men who might be interested.
  8. When will we meet the final candidate?
    The PSC will review all applications, and do preliminary interview(s), in order to narrow down to one final candidate. If the Elders approve, then that candidate will be invited to the church for a designated weekend of preaching and meeting the congregation.
  9. Will the congregation vote on the final candidate?
    Yes. Following the candidate visit, a special congregational meeting will be held for members to vote on extending a formal call.
  10. How often will we get updates?
    The PSC will aim to provide monthly updates in the Sunday News & Notes and during prayer meetings.
  11. Who can I contact with questions?
    You can reach out to any member of the Pastoral Search Committee at any time, although they will need to maintain the confidentially of applicants during the early process.
